Client: Ballymore Group
The success and connectivity of the new residential development on the Leamouth Peninsula hinges on the link to the transport hub of Canning Town Station. A key, and early, requirement of the development, now called City Island, is to provide a foot and cycle bridge across the River Lea connecting the north of the peninsula to Canning Town.
Various schemes had been produced by others, but they were either too expensive or could not obtain planning permission. We worked closely with the client, producing a cost effective, aesthetically pleasing design that draws inspiration from the robust engineering heritage of the area.
The bridge has been granted planning permission and the first piles are just about to be installed, signalling the start of the City Island development.
